About the Saluki
As a Tazi enthusiast- and owner I am always surprised by
what is written about the origin of the Tazi.
I was born and raised in Persia (now known as
Iran), and I recollect the time as a warm memory and feel lucky to have grown up with Tazis. Many
authors have tried to write about Tazis, but what they write is not always correct.
They have
often taken incorrect information from other sources and reproduced this false information. These
"experts" are not Persians who know the breed as well as I do. Their knowledge is limited to what
is written in the western dog registry, the FCI. Their knowledge is based only on their
experience since the Tazi came to Europe or was registered as a pure breed in Europe. It seems
pretty funny to me when "experts" try to tell me something about the Tazi. Where do they get
their knowledge? Have they ever been to Iran or Kurdistan ?
And if so, were they able to see a
real Tazi "close up," as I have? Did they get to know the proud owners; did they get the chance
to see the living conditions of the dogs and see the hunting techniques? Did they observe this
for many years? Here in the western world there are Tazi owners who think they know everything
about the Tazi after having a Tazi for only a short time. These people want to publish their
incorrect knowledge.
What I find worse is copying incorrect information from a source and
passing it off as an original truthful book. But all of them are incorrect and I still believe
that none of them has ever been to Iran or Kurdistan. But I have also met people who have
discovered their love for the true Tazi. To answer their questions about the origin and the
hunting techniques of the Tazi, I herewith write the true story of the Tazi. If you, my dear
reader, have any further questions
please feel free to
contact me. I'm more than happy to help you.
